Three Reasons There Is A God

When prominent people such as best-selling author the late Christopher Hitchens (God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything) and actor Brad Pitt vigorously argue that there is no God, how do we respond? Here are the three best reasons (supported by short videos below) why we can know that there is a God:

  1. What begins to exist has a cause.
  2. Complex design requires a designer.
  3. Moral laws require a law giver.

1. What begins to exist has a cause.

According to the Big Bang theory, the universe hasn’t always been here. It began, and therefore, what begins must have a cause.

THE CASE FOR A CREATOR

WHEN AND HOW DID THE UNIVERSE BEGIN?

Description:
Where did the universe come from? Atheists say the universe is eternal and uncaused. However modern astronomy and astrophysics and their Big Bang theory have called this into question. Could the Big Bang have occurred out of nothing? Could space, time, and matter have come from nothing and by nothing? On the contrary, Dr. William Land Craig explains that the Big Bang theory confirms creation by God and the existence of God. 1) Whatever begins to exist has a cause; 2) the universe began to exist; 3) therefore the universe has a cause.

2. Complex design requires a designer

The universe is filled with complex design. If the universe were altered minutely, it would not have expanded and been capable of supporting life. Complex design requires a designer.

THE CASE FOR A CREATOR

COMPLEX DESIGN REQUIRES A DESIGNER

Description:
The universe is fine tuned. For example, Stephen Hawking has estimated that if the rate of expansion one second after the Big Bang was smaller by one part in one part in a hundred thousand million million the universe would have collapsed. The fine-tuning is so precise that the change in the force of gravity by only one part in 10100 would have prevented a life-permitting universe. What could explain this remarkable fine-tuning: 1) Natural law, 2) Chance. 3) Design
As Dr. William Lane Craig explains, it is not due to either natural law or chance. Therefore, it must be due to design.

3. MORAL LAWS REQUIRE A LAW GIVER

Everybody believes that rape and murder are wrong. Why? Universal laws such as these require a law giver.

THE CASE FOR A CREATOR

MORAL LAWS REQUIRE A LAW GIVER

Description:
Dr. William Lane Craig explains that objective values do exist. For example, people believe that rape and murder are wrong. Where did those notions come from?

1) If God does not exist, then objective moral values do not exist; 2) Objective values do exist; 3) Therefore, God exists.
